A full day's touristing (Tuscany Day 2)

On the 17th we had a late breakfast and then were out at 10:45 AM to do some exploring of Florence. I'd bought us Firenze Cards, which gave us 72 hours of free entry - and avoidance of queues - to most museums, palaces, etc. First stop was the Medici Chapel at San Lorenzo Church with its stunning marble decoration and Medici toimbs including sculptures by Michelangelo, and the market around it.

Then it was on to the Duomo and Baptistry with its famous East Doors by Ghiberti.

As there was a train strike scheduled for Sunday when we had to travel to Viareggio, we then found the Lazzi bus company offices and got ourselves two tickets on Sunday's 9:15 AM bus to Viareggio (the only one of the day). The interesting experience we had trying to board that bus I'll come to at the appropriate time. We also found quite a good Supermarket nearby where we bought ourselves the makings of lunch and walked back to the hotel and collapsed.

In the late afternoon, we took the long hop on hop off bus route which included Fiesole, a town in the hills overlooking Florence with wonderful views of the city and the countryside around.
